Last week in April 4-25/4-30 was red hot for lakers.The smelt have finished.The bait will be spreading throughout the lake now.With water temperatures in the low forty's the trout will be feeding from the surface on down.They'll also feed heavily on fly hatches at this time.We observed this going on sunday morning.You'll be surprised at how many lakers you take shallow while trolling a streamer for salmon. The key to remmember for early-mid may is that the entire water column is suitable for roaming trout.To give you an idea of how hot fishing has been on the "highliner" this past sat-sun mornings4-25/4-26 we landed a total of 34 trout.You can check the highliner out at http://www.highlinerfishing.com/

Weekday catch

I will have a new post Sunday night April 26.. as I write this we are just coming off a successful Saturday on Lake George.... Earlier in the week....I was off lake george and took a few guys from conn. out crappie fishing on toga.The mornings were cold,with wind off and on and rain.We managed 8 fish in total by 11am.on the first morning.After a quick lunch, i took the guys to a couple of my special spots and swore them to secrecy.I knew the afternoon water would be a good 3-5 degrees warmer here.From 2-5pm we boated 61 crappie.Yesterday we slept in at 1:30 i met the guys at my dock on saratoga lake.I was (am)nursing a bad cold so i bundled up while terry and lee took their limit of crappie .Find the slightly warmer water and the crappies are there.They should be red hot this weekend.Just look for the tight concentration of boats.That will be were the crappie are.1\16-1\8 hair jigs with and withuot a tipped minnow, and suspended 1-3 feet under a light casting bobber will do the trick.I'll be on george this weekend and will fill you in there.

Good weekend for Lake Trout

Well the 2009 season is officially underway here on Lake George.
The Highliner Charter boat fished both Saturday and Sunday mornings.
While out scouting and pre-fishing on Wednesday and Thursday I noticed
the birds were working the creek mouth and the Lakers were showing up
on the fish finder along the shoreline. “Bingo” I’ll be back on Saturday
morning.

Saturday at 7am the Highliner pulled away from the dock with Bob, his dad,
Jim, and Gary. When we arrived at the creek their were no birds working and
very few Lakers showing on the fish finder. After a pass and no fish, I knew
we had to locate the bait out in the bay and we would find the Lakers.
I assumed the main run of the smelt were still a few days away.

Once we located the bait suspended out in the deeper waters, the fun began.
The guys landed seven Lakers and kept four for the grill. A great way to
start the season.

On Sunday I had Pete and his wife Michelle and their son Nick. We found the
Fish in the same spot and Pete and Michelle sat back and laughed while Nick
Huffed and puffed to bring in seven out of nine Lakers. Including a bruiser of
8 or 9 lbs. All on a noodle rod with light line.
Nick kept two for the dining table and released the rest. A lot of fun was had by
all. Good job Nick.
